Brand new Scratch has launched, welcoming tablet users and registrations are open

Brand new Scratch has launched, welcoming tablet users and registrations are open

30 January 2019

Last year Sunshine Coast CoderDojo had roughly 400 registrations across both dojo’s at Noosa and Sippy Downs and now we’re back for another year.

At Sunshine Coast CoderDojo school aged kids aged 7-17 get to work on all things code and computers with the help of some super awesome mentors. This is more like an after school club for kids interested in coding and tech and all things STEM fun.

Term 1 registrations are open

Commencing on February 9, registrations are now available for term 1. Please register through eventbrite for the dojo you would like to attend, even regulars need to register so we have a good idea of numbers. If the dojo you’d prefer to go to is sold out, pop yourself on the wait list because we do open this up as the term progresses and we get a better idea of numbers.

If you have always thought about coming along to CoderDojo but you're not sure what it's like or what it is all about, contact us via the website, our email or facebook and we are more than happy to have a chat with you about what we do and what a general session is like. If you'd like to come along for one session just to see what it's like, let us know first but you're more than welcome.

CoderDojo is completely free for our ninjas and because of this we rely heavily on our awesome volunteers and parents who stick around to help out. We are very thankful for our mentors that do donate their time and knowledge and we are always looking for more. Whether you are a coder, interested in games or just a STEM enthusiast (I’m looking at you uni students who need experience for your CV or volunteer hours) CoderDojo could be a fun and rewarding place to spend the odd Saturday morning.

New Scratch means tablet users are welcome!

For those using scratch we have good news! You can now come to dojo if you have a tablet that can use a web browser (like chrome or safari) as scratch has had a big makeover and now works well on tablets as a website not just as the ScratchJr app.

In the past we have strictly said no tablets at dojo which is unfortunate as we are aware that some kids don’t have access to laptops especially if they are not a grade in school that requires them. So if scratch is something you’re doing or want to do and you only have an iPad, come along to CoderDojo one Saturday and check it out!

If you are using a tablet you can now use Scratch (in a browser) on iPad and most tablets and iPad users can also learn swift with swift playgrounds. If you've only got a tablet and you have any questions about whether it is suitable or you can come to dojo just give us a buzz and we are more than happy to help you out.
