⚠️IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Term 1 will be ending early
As conscientious members of the community we have come to the decision in light of the current COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, the remainder of term 1 of CoderDojo Sunshine Coast will be cancelled.
Obviously we don’t get 500 ninjas gathering at one time for CoderDojo Sunshine Coast, but in the interests of being cautious, we will be having Saturday the 14th of March as our last CoderDojo session for both Sippy Downs and Noosa this term.
We are aware that even though we think coding on a Saturday morning is absolutely an essential outing, we are cognizant of the fact that this is not in fact the case and as the situation develops, people need to be prioritising social isolating.
We realise that our decision may come across as overly cautious though we believe it is important to prioritise the health of our ninjas, volunteer mentors and other members of the community and mitigate any unnecessary risk where we can.
You are most welcome to attend our last session tomorrow and we look forward to seeing you!
As per the Queensland Health guidelines, if your child has any of the below symptoms please contact your GP and skip CoderDojo tomorrow please:
- Fever
- Flu-like symptoms such as a cough, sore throat or headache
- Difficulty breathing
By the way, we realise many of our Ninjas look forward to their coding sessions, so if your child would like any extra resources or tips on what they could work on at home to improve their coding skills, just drop an email to sunshinecoast.au@coderdojo.com with a bit of a brief on where they are at currently and we will happily see if we can rustle up some resources and links to email back to you to keep your child interested in coding and occupied while at home.
Now is a good time to learn about disinfecting and cleaning your laptop hardware. Computer keyboards and mouses are germ oasis, it is important to know how to disinfect your keyboard/mouse, pandemic or not. The simplest way to do so is to wipe down the surfaces with a disinfecting (not anti-bacterial) wipe or to use a disinfectant surface spray (like isopropyl alcohol) and a microfibre cloth. There is a lot of debate about how best to disinfect your hardware, this is what we do. Here is an article that goes into more detail if you are interested in learning more.
We look forward to seeing you tomorrow and of course, after the school holidays when we all hope that we can resume as normal. Keep an eye out on your email inbox and our socials to stay in the loop about term 2 dates and other information. If you have any questions or concerns please email us or shoot us a message on our socials.
Stay safe & healthy 😊
